a couple of people have expressed concern about tubby breaking her dishes, so i just want to note that sometimes when the cups are misaligned in their tray they wobble a little and make a tiny clinking sound. when this happens instead of eating directly out of her dish, tubby will use her paw to bring the food to her mouth in order to prevent any unseemly noises.
i know that people are real up on the whole “you can’t get fired/be discriminated against if you’re asexual” thing (which….thanks…)
but may i casually remind you that today at work, i overheard my boss discussing ways to get me to leave. somehow, and i don’t know how, he saw some of my tweets talking about being ace.
he’s of the option that asexuality is some disease, that it goes hand in hand with being devoid of emotions somehow, and that because of that i can’t possibly be a good teacher because i am incapable of empathy for the children and i am mentally ill.
sure. he can’t fire me for that. but he sure can make my work environment so stressful, uncomfortable, and downright hostile. and he can do that so much it will make me quit.
i didn’t want to let him win, but like. i was legitimately suicidal because of the environment at work and i felt like i had to quit.
so yeah.
maybe i can’t be fired as an asexual. but boy howdy can i be discriminated against, harassed, and straight up treated like garbage because of it.
and if this happens at work…consider what would happen if this boss was my landlord? i’d probably mysteriously lose my apartment. imagine if he was a police officer that pulled me over? you bet your ass i’d probably be arrested, or get a bullshit fine/ticket, or be completely abused.

they can’t LEGALLY do any of that to me.
but they can’t legally do it to anyone and look how well that’s turned out.

if you’re of the opinion that my life is just fine as an asexual, that i’m not discriminated against or hated, take that into account. take that and take me being ignored at pride because i’m just “secretly straight but wanting to fit in.”

I’ve talked about how a study was done asking people whether they be more or less likely to rent to or hire someone if they found out that person was asexual. The results showed that most people would be less likely to hire and rent to asexuals and it also showed people thinking asexual people were more robotic, less human and unfriendly. But whenever I talked about this people would go “yeah but that’s just theoretical! It’s not like it would be appropriate to tell someone you’re asexual in a job interview!”
And yes, but what if they find out that you’re asexual? They’d still have all these prejudices and harmful opinions of you based on your asexuality. AND HERE WE HAVE PROOF OF THAT.
I’m sorry, I don’t want to use your experience to prove a point, OP, but I think it’s important evidence to show that these “theoretical scenarios” can and do happen.

a) an intentional marketing scheme to stir interest in the project and attract certain fanbases (lgbtq people and young women) vs.
b) members of the creative team genuinely wanting to write queer characters but the corporate side of things force them to tone it down but they still leave little hints vs.
c) they legitimately did not know how gay something would come across
