I’m trying to help you

Read on AO3!

Gavin woke up in an unfamiliar room. He sat up slowly, noticing he was lying in a bed. The next thing he noticed was the lack of windows. He was probably somewhere underground then. He climbed off the bed when he noticed another thing, one that made his blood freeze. He had a chain around his ankle. Closing his eyes for a moment he tried to remember the last thing that happened before waking up. He had been at the DPD, arguing with Connor as usual. Gavin pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to remember more. He had been arguing with Connor, and then- then he left to go home? No, that wasn’t right.

Footsteps echoed around him from above, good, he could hear people. He climbed up on top of the bed and tried to reach the ceiling. He had to jump to slap the ceiling with his hand. The footsteps paused before continuing. They were no longer above him but going towards the front of the room, then they were in front of the door. Stairs then, Gavin decided as he jumped down from the bed and lifted his fists. He wondered who would jump him by the DPD, who would just chain him to a bed instead of just killing him or tying him to a chair.

The door clicked and then swung open. Gavin dropped his fists as he laughed. “Nines you scared me for a moment! You found who kidnapped me then? Good you can help me get this stupid fucking chain off.” He turned to pick up the chain and stopped when he took another look at his partner, the partner who made no move to free him. “Nines, help me break these chains.” There was blue blood over the androids hands and he had a tear in his jacket. “Are you hurt? Can you tell me who took me?” Gavin started to feel fear bubbling in his chest as Nines just stood there stoically. Icy gray eyes just watched the human holding the chain and trying to pull it away from the bed.

“Everything will be alright Detective.” He watched Gavin give a sigh of relief before holding up the chain. Nines walked in and closed the door behind him, locking it just in case. “He won’t bother you anymore.”

Gavin looked up at Nines as the android stopped in front of him. “Who? What do you mean?”

A hand covered in blue blood raised up to cup Gavin’s cheek. He tightened his grip as the human flinched away. “Connor won’t be an issue anymore Gavin.”

“Nines. What did you do?” Those deep grey eyes looked up with just a touch of fear hiding in them. Nines just gave a smile and placed the hand not holding Gavin’s face on his shoulder. “I need you to tell me, what did you do?”

Nines leaned down to kiss Gavin, holding the struggling human in place before standing up straight again. “I got rid of the problem Gavin, he won’t be bothering you anymore.”

Gavin pushed uselessly against him. “What the fuck! I don’t know what you’re trying but we-”

He was cut off with a shout, “I’m trying to help! You had a problem and I got rid of it!” Nines knew his LED was red right then. He took a few breaths to cool down his processors before speaking again. “Nothing will come between us any longer.” It amused him, how he could see the exact instant his human realized what position he was in. At the same time, he felt saddened. His human should be glad, he protected him, all he wanted to do was keep his frail human safe from the outside world. Gavin shouldn’t fear him, no not him.

Nines grabbed Gavin by the face again, staring at him and the fear in his eyes before letting go and turning away. “You locked me up.” Gavin sounded so surprised. “You locked me up and- and what? Killed Connor? What the fuck is wrong with you? Do you have an error in your system or something?” Nines ignored him, walking towards the door and opening it.

“I’ll come back later. You’ll see eventually that I did this for your own protection.”

Gavin fell back on the bed when the door closed behind Nines. He put his head in his hands and wondered if this was how he would die. Locked away by an android who- what loved him? Was obsessed? He wondered how he would get away. How do you escape a jailer who never slept, who didn’t need food or water? How could he outsmart Cyberlife’s finest?

Went with DBH, sorry! But the idea of Yandere Nines just wouldn’t go away.

So my husband had another “Oh shit did I just say that” moment that I laughed at too much to call him out on.

Both of us watching a playthrough of Detroit Become Human. (Jacksepticeye’s) It’s at the scene where Kara is escaping Todd with Alice. “Shoot him in the face! Shoot the fucker!” -me shouting at the screen and Geoff just turns and looks at me.
Gavin insults Connor and punches him, “Why can’t we shoot him? Just once?”-Geoff
Cue my turning and looking at husband. “Oh, so we want to shoot the asshole but we can’t kill the abuser?”
“Well when you put it that way.”

I just laughed at the expression on his face as he had to reevaluate his though process there. I think he more so reacted that way (saying don’t kill Todd) because of how bloodthirsty I was being.

Things Fascinate me

Read on AO3! (Also now realizing there aren’t very many gifs of these two)

Things fascinate me. Why wouldn’t they, when you stop to give them thought? For example, there are Truths, things people take as fact, as face value and never look deeper than. Connor told me one of these on my first day at the DPD, a bit of information taken by the whole squad as a universal truth.

“Gavin is a Dick.” Connor waved in the direction of a shorter man standing at a table and drinking coffee. I scanned him briefly, Detective Gavin Reeds, Age 36, Born 10/07/02, no criminal record. The man glanced over at me before rolling his eyes and turning back to the woman sitting on a stool next to him. Her hat was pulled low, covering her face so I couldn’t scan but I could read the last name Chen before Gavin shifted and completely blocked my view.

“Hank’s getting better.” Was another, only whispered though as I watched the older man stumble into work hungover. “Connor really has been a big help.” Usually follows, as I watch Connor himself follow after the Lieutenant carrying a bag lunch. On those days he will go into the breakroom, put away Hank’s lunch and make the man coffee as I watch.

Things fascinate me, I suppose it is because I was woken up when I was first turned on. Everything around me new and fascinating, the world I see without me having to spill a drop of blood. I suppose I should thank Markus and the remaining members from Jericho for that, but I haven’t seen them since the day Connor took me to the DPD. Gavin fascinates me, I would not have assumed such a small human would be so volatile, but he is. He cares little for himself in regards to safety. I take this as a fact due to the time he took a bullet in the arm during an investigation and didn’t tell anyone until the shooter was sitting in the back of the cruiser. I think he only said he had gotten shot because I asked why Tina Chen had blood staining her uniform. It was then I learned another fact, Tina Chen is very loud when she yells at someone.

Gavin Reed spent more time than usual at his desk after that, I believe healing wounds hurt based on his facial expressions every time he moved that arm. I found myself watching him more often after that incident, a 37% increase to be exact. He always took his coffee with one cream and no sugar. He kept protein shakes in the fridge and would drink two of them a day. He spent at least 30 minutes a day in the gym, always marked with his second protein shake being finished when he returned. Gavin was fascinating to me, I just didn’t know how to speak to him.

I tried asking Connor for advice, but he seemed surprised that I wanted to speak with Gavin. I tried asking Tina, but I think I confused her. She only laughed and told me to ‘be myself’ and stated that I was ‘totally his type’. I don’t understand what she meant by that. I tried asking Hank for advice but he froze so completely both Connor and I checked to make sure he wasn’t experiencing a heart attack. He wasn’t.

I found myself at a loss, and still fascinated by Gavin. I found myself wishing I could have the easy conversations he and Tina had. That I would say something witty and he would laugh, his nose wrinkling around his scar, head falling back, and his shoulders shaking. I wanted him to look at me with those safe soft gray eyes. There was so much I wanted to do to him-

I cursed, aloud from the surprised expression Connor sent me. I wasn’t fascinated by Gavin, well I was, but not the same way Connor was fascinated by Sumo. No, I just realized something. I liked Gavin. I had to do something about this and had no idea what to do. Connor wouldn’t be helpful, Hank would have a complete fit, so that left me with only one real option.

The morning after my realization I walked up to Tina Chen’s desk, glancing over and seeing Gavin’s was empty first. “Tina, I have to talk to you. About Gavin.” She opened her mouth to speak, but I cut her off, not knowing if I would be able to work up the courage to say this again. “I like him, and I don’t know what to do or even how I would tell him!” She didn’t say anything and I froze, noticing she wasn’t looking at me, but looking behind me instead.

Well shit. I didn’t want to turn around, I really didn’t want to turn around and see Gavin right there. A voice from behind me solved that issue quickly. “I think that was an easy way of telling him.” Shit. It was Gavin speaking behind me. “I wondered when you would move from quietly stalking me to actually speaking to me.” I turned around.

Gavin sipped his coffee, one creamer, and looked up at me. Those stupidly beautiful gray eyes were laughing at me as he smirked. I didn’t know what to say, I felt like an error message was preventing me from even speaking. “I-” He took another sip and looked ready to laugh. I wanted to die, but he wasn’t outright rejecting me, so that must have been a plus sign, right? “I found you fascinating.” I wanted to slap myself.

Gavin bit the sides of his cheeks to keep from laughing and instead curled up an arm, showing off a bicep. Why did he have to look so good? “Yeah, I am pretty amazing.” He gave a short laugh and reached past me to place his coffee mug on Tina’s desk. She took hers with a painful amount of sugar, 7 packets, so Gavin’s drink was safe there. I heard the sound of sugar packets being shaken behind me and fixed that thought. The coffee was not safe, Tina kept sugar packets at her desk. He looked up and me and gave a wink before turning towards his desk. He paused and made a finger gun motion towards me with another wink. “If I’m so fascinating, we should go on a date. Dancing, tomorrow night.”

I just nodded in response, not trusting my mouth. I wondered if I would sound like a computer crashing, I felt like one just then. I felt a small thin finger poke me in the back and I turned around to look back at Tina. “Club, Gav and I usually go clubbing. Dress nice, but also in something you won’t mind scrubbing drinks out of because some idiot spilled them on you.”

I nodded, thinking I was just going to go and buy new clothes. Also wondering who I would take with me for shopping. I already knew it wouldn’t be Connor, he usually stole Hanks clothes and what he didn’t steal from the older man was eye blindingly bright. Tina also solved that problem as she laughed at a chat window that popped up on her computer. “I’ll help you pick out clothes, alright?” I leaned further to see what she was laughing at as I nodded. The chat window read ‘IT WAS ONE TIME! STOP TELLING THAT TO PEOPLE!’

Are you jealous?

Gavin sighed as he flipped through his phone, swiping left past different pictures and profiles. He paused at one and jumped when Tina spoke from over his shoulder.

“Oh he looks cute. You could try him out.” He swiped right and chuckled when a display popped up ‘It’s a match!’. “Go you hot stuff, getting all the attention aren’t we?”

He glanced over at Nines, only the yellow LED let Gavin know he was eavesdropping. “Last few weren’t that great though.” He left out how none of them could make him laugh, how completely boring and normal they all were. He wanted someone who got him riled up, who made his heart race and gave him a rush.

Tina plucked the phone out of his hands. “Hey Nines! Wanna help me with getting Gavin some action?” He was never more glad to find them alone in the station. Perks of working so early. It was probably why Tina felt so comfortable shouting about his sex life.

“I can get plenty of action. I just can’t get past a one night stand.” He muttered to himself, crossing his arms and looking over at Tina and Nines. Usually Nines had a small smile when around either him, Tina, or Connor, but right now he was frowning as Tina chatted quietly with him. “Tina Chen give me my phone back!” He grumbled some more to himself before opening a case file and working on the report for it.

Gavin was surprised when a few minutes later it wasn’t Tina who was handing him the phone but Nines. The android was unusually stoic as he held out the phone in front of Gavin’s face. “I have looked through the available profiles of gay men in the area and none of them are compatible for you.”

Gavin squinted and looked up at Nines, “What the fuck?”

“Upon review of these ‘Grinder’ profiles, none of them are good enough for you.” Nines placed the phone down on Gavin’s desk with a frown. Now Gavin knew something was up.

“Not good enough for me?” He gave a self-deprecating laugh, “This is me we’re still talking about right? I’m only good enough for a one night stand.” Nines frowned even more, his LED turning yellow for a moment before it went back to blue. Gavin stood up and looked at Nines before speaking again. “Are you jealous?”

Nines looked to the side, over at the desk instead of Gavin. “My emotions wouldn’t make a difference here.” He glanced back at Gavin, taking in the surprised expression and slight dilation of the detectives gray eyes. He bit his lip, a human gesture he briefly wondered when he picked it up.

“Wait- what the fuck?” Gavin felt confused, he hadn’t even realized Nines was gay, or could feel attraction. He grabbed Nines jacket when the android turned to walk away. “No, you don’t get to drop a bomb like that and walk away. The way you feel makes a difference to me.” He watched Nines bite his lip again, his face turned away slightly and it annoyed Gavin just then. He couldn’t see the android’s LED and couldn’t tell what he was feeling right then. Gavin decided right then to bite the bullet. Nines could punch him later.

He grabbed Nines with his other hand as well, both fists holding onto the jacket and turned him forward. Nines looked slightly surprised as Gavin moved one hand to grab onto the collar of his jacket and pulled him forward for a kiss.

Gavin was surprised at the softness of Nine’s lips, he almost expected the androids lips to have a hard, plastic feeling. He let go of Nines collar, shifting his hand to softly rest on Nines shoulder. He wanted Nines to be able to pulled back if he wanted to. After a moment more he pulled back grinning to himself at the expression on Nines face.

Nines grabbed Gavin for a second, shorter kiss before stepping back and smoothing out his jacket. “I see I was- wrong in feeling I should keep my emotions to myself. Perhaps we should test our compatibility?”

Gavin shook his head at his friend’s way of speaking, “A date, this friday after work?”. Nines nodded and went back to his desk. Tina strolled up to Gavin with a smirk. He paused, knowing that a smirking Tina never bode well for his dignity. She just held up her phone with a small wave.

“Saturday, brunch and drinks. I want to know everything.” She gave a small smirk at Gavin before going to her own desk. She gave a wave to Connor as he walked in, a half awake Hank following after.

I wish I didn’t have these feelings

It started as a tickle in his throat, a cough that didn’t want to go away. Gavin thought it was from the smoking. He wished it was from the smoking. He glanced over at Nines, so beautiful, so perfect as he filed the paperwork without even a glance at his partner. He felt a blush rise to his cheeks when Nines finally looked up, his expression not betraying any emotions.

Gavin wished it was lung cancer instead when he coughed up flower petals that evening in the shower. He felt his blood freeze in his veins as he stared at the white petals in his hand. They looked so pure, so unassuming, and yet they marked a countdown for him.

Thump, thump, thump

Gavin kept punching the bag, occasionally pausing to switch it to a kick before hitting it again. He didn’t want to think, he didn’t want to see that face again in his thoughts.

Thump, thump, thump

He didn’t want to hear the voice in his thoughts, he wanted to forget the feel of his partners hand on his cheek. The concern in those gray eyes, the soft frown as they looked over him. Gavin wanted to forget about his partner. He wanted to push away the growing feelings for Nines.

Thump, thump, thump

It was hard. He knew it wasn’t possible to forget about how he felt. He still tried though, working out until sweat covered his shirt and he peeled it off, tossing it on the floor and going back to the punching bag. If he could just focus on hitting it and ignoring his thoughts, he could pretend for a moment longer he wasn’t falling in love with Nines. He could also forget the way Nines looked at him and the gnawing realization his feelings might be returned.

He heard the sound of the door opening and ignored it. Focusing on hitting the bag instead.

“Detective Reed, we have a case.” He loved that voice, he just hated the way it made his heart flutter.

Thump, thump, thump.

“We need to leave for the case.” He ignored Nines again, angry at his own emotions for getting in the way. Nines walked over and grabbed the bag, bending slightly to look Gavin right in the eyes. He stopped at the force of the androids gaze. “Why are you like this Detective Reed?”

Gavin stopped, closing his eyes and taking a moment to catch his breath. “Why the fuck do you think I’m like this?”

He kept his eyes shut, hearing soft footsteps coming up. “I believe you are attracted to me Detective.”

“Hole in one asshole.” Nines reached out and gripped Gavin’s chin, tilting the smaller mans head up and looking him in the eyes. “What the fuck?” He cut him off with a firm kiss.

“I find you attractive Detective and we can explore this later, but we have a case to attend to. Go clean up.” Nines turned and walked out of the room, his calm demeanor annoying Gavin again.

“Fucking android.”

30.“I was scared and I ran.”

Simon could feel every footstep, every thump of his feet against the ground as he tried to put more distance between himself and-

He came to a stop, leaning against the wall and letting the tears flow. He could feel himself sobbing and tried to stop it, tried to push down the gnawing feeling in his chest. He felt a hand on his shoulder and someone turned him around and pulled him into a hug.

Josh just ran a hand through Simon’s hair, softly asking what was wrong.

“I wanted to tell him, I was going to but I saw him kissing North and I just- I knew he wouldn’t feel that way. I was scared already and I just ran.” Josh held him tighter as Simon leaned his head against his chest, taking comfort in his friend. “I was scared and I ran. I can’t believe what a coward I am.”

You keep my head from going under – Birooksun – Detroit: Become Human (Video Game) [Archive of Our Own]

My newest story! Another OC-centric (sorry guys, I write best with OCs) but also starring Ralph and one of the Chloes!

Summary:

Only a handful of people even knew Elijah Kamski had a daughter, himself, his half brother Gavin, the mother who kept his daughter from him, the Chloes, and one he didn’t know. Ralph, a deviated android hiding away from humans and best friend of his daughter Diana Winters.

26.9K words though. A bit long for a one shot. Should I break it up into a couple chapters instead?
